"Always Love Product"

I got my hair cut for the first time since September (yes, it really has been THAT LONG) and my stylist used just about 10 different products in my hair. Yes, I did not exaggerate, 10 different products. As she said, "Hey, you're paying for it, so why not!"

I obsess over my hair. I have ever since I totally destroyed it in 2002 getting ready for my bf's senior prom. It's a long story, but essentially I permed my hair (don't ask) and it was a HUGE disaster. I believe I'm still recovering from the trauma. (Yes, that is my expert to-be-MD opinion.)

My stylist in Dallas was such a hair-Queen. After each cut, she would blow out my hair and give me this silky-smooth, super-shiny, sexy-wavy hair that was just too beautiful. I really thought I would never find another like her ever again. BUT I HAVE. And as I speak, I have silky-smooth, super-shiny, sexy-wavy hair that is again, just too beautiful. STEVEN SOBEL, all you New Orleans people. STEVEN SOBEL SALON. $50 wash/cut/style.

I love, love, love going to the salon.

New Year, Not-So-New Semester

It's the last day of the year 2009, the last day of the first decade of the new millennium, and I'm sitting at home watching CSI in HD ordered for free on Verizon Fios On-Demand (which is freaking awesome, btw). This has been absolutely the most relaxing break of my student career - with only one tiny little skirmish with the parents. I really wish I didn't have to go back to school...

Speaking of school, my New Year's Resolution for 2010 is to be less negative about school. I'm not even entirely sure why I hate it so much (actually, I am, but there's too much to hate to spell it all out). Maybe if I trained myself to enjoy the pain, I'll be happier?

Self-deception isn't always a bad thing, right???

So anyway, technically January begins a new "semester" but we don't have new classes. Isn't that weird? Why would they call it a new semester when we have the same classes? Why keep old conceptions of education when you've clearly been trying to break them down in order to cram more information in our heads? For some reason, it reminds me of people who refuse to swear and use replacement words instead. Like "fudge" instead of "fuck." Not sure how that relates, but that's how my mind seems to be working these days.

Returning the good ole south in a couple of days!

Disrepect

There are a couple of things I need to get off my chest.

First of all, related to the recent Joe Wilson outburst during the President's address to Congress... IT WAS WRONG. I'm sorry, I don't care whether or not you support the president or if you support the health care bill, you just DO NOT disrespect the president like that! Who the FUCK do you think you are? And now people are praising him and glorifying him? Why, why, why would people do that? The outburst is even more ridiculous when you consider the fact that ALL the various versions of the proposed health care bill actually specifically exclude illegal immigrants. So it was Joe Wilson that was lying in the first place.

Actually, what gets me about the whole dynamic about the health care debate is that it seems as though every day I hear about something that is FLAGRANTLY untrue about the health care bill. Like the whole "death panel" thing that is untrue. And now the illegal immigrant thing that is untrue. And there was that commercial about how women with breast cancer were gonna die more, which is UNTRUE. It's 100% scare tactics and it really. really. bothers me. It kinda makes me think that there are some people in our country who don't want health care reform from Obama - no matter what is proposed.

Second of all, I hate this particular group of kids in my class who seem to think it's ok to talk through all the lectures and to leave before the professor is done speaking. Now, I understand if you need to be somewhere and the professor has gone over by like, 15 minutes, but you do NOT need to leave the MINUTE the class is supposed to be finished. Where do you need to go that's soooo important? And you can't sit there and complain that you don't understand him if you can't sit there and listen! It's all so disrespectful. These are professors who spend their lives studying the material that they're presenting. They are smart and extremely knowledgeable. I just want to turn around and scream in their faces, "Shut the FUCK up or fucking leave, you pricks."
